Michel Serres (1 September 1930–1 June 2019) was a French philosopher, theorist and writer. His works include Le Parasite (Éditions Grasset, 1980), Le Contrat Naturel (Éditions François Bourin, 1990) and Genèse (Éditions Grasset, 1982). He was elected to the Académie française in 1990.

Randolph Burksis a philosopher specializing in phenomenology and philosophies of the body and nature. He has translated several works by Michel Serres including Branches (Bloomsbury Academic, 2020), Hominescence (Bloomsbury Academic, 2019) and Variations on the Body (University of Minnesota, 2012).
