Bei Dao is a Chinese-American writer whose works have been translated into more than thirty languages. His most recent work is a memoir, City Gate, Open Up (New Directions, 2017). He is the recipient of numerous honors including a Guggenheim Fellowship (1998) and the Barbara Fields-Siotis Award (2020). He is an Honorary Professor of Humanities at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Eliot Weinberger is an American writer, essayist, editor, and translator. He has translated works of Jorge Luis Borges, Octavio Paz and Bei Dao, among others. His most recent book is Angels & Saints (New Directions, 2020). Weinberger’s essay collection 9/12, What I Heard About Iraq, and What Happened Here: Bush Chronicles was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle award for criticism.
