W.G. Sebald (18 May 1944 – 14 December 2001) became professor of European literature at the University of East Anglia in 1987 and directed the British Centre for Literary Translation from 1989 to 1994. He received the Berlin Literature Prize and the Literatur Nord Prize.


Anthea Bell (10 May 1936 – 18 October 2018) translated literature from French, German and Danish. Her translation of Austerlitz won the Schlegel-Tieck Prize in 2002.
